Setup / Register FAQs

Where do I start?
You go to the ‘get a quote’ page by using the link at the top and submit your information.  Northern Michigan Accounting will respond within               two business days to reply with a price.  Otherwise, please call us at 1.877.757.8223 and you can receive a price quote over the phone.                     For a QuickBooks review quote please call us to go over the details.

I currently have a bookkeeper.  How hard is it to change over to you?
It is very simple.  Send your latest balance sheet, income statement any bank, credit card and/or loan statements for the current month.                     Keep in mind that we cannot contact your current bookkeeper, everything is handled through you.

I am starting a new business, can you do my bookkeeping?
Yes, we will gather your information from a step-by-step checklist so you’re set up correctly. 

I am behind with my books.  Can you bring me up to date?
Not a problem.  We will start with the original setup process, and then you send all your information that you would normally send each                       period from the date you need to catch up to the current month and you’ll have timely financial statements going forward.

What if I have questions with the checklist?

How do I get my reports?
We email the reports to you on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly basis depending on the service you chose. 

What if I need to make changes to the data I sent you?
Please send the information with your signature authorizing the change to service@northernmiaccounting.com.




Payroll Paycheck Processing FAQs

Does Northern Michigan Accounting print my actual paycheck?
It depends.  We’ve found the easiest way is to email or fax you the paystubs, then you give it to your employees along with a check your                   write from your checking account matching the net pay shown on the paystub.  If you would rather we could set up direct deposit for your               employees.  Give us a call and we will gladly set up a system that works for your company.   

Do I have to sign up for payroll tax processing along with the paycheck service?
No. But it’s one less headache for you if we provide your payroll tax reports because we prepare your payroll using QuickBooks and they                     automatically calculate and print out on the correct forms so there’s no room for discrepancy from your payroll reports. 

What reports are included with payroll check processing?
Employees pay stubs and a payroll summary report for the payroll processed.

What forms do I need to fax/email for a new employee?
Send us your W-4 and your State tax exemptions form so we have documentation showing the deductions the employee wants to claim.                 You’re responsible for any forms that are required when you hire a new employee, such as, W-9 and identification, etc.)




Payroll Tax Processing FAQS

Do you prepare the checks for the payroll tax amounts due?
No.  When you receive your deposit information or reports that need to be sent to the Government, I will notify you of any amounts that are             due and when they are due.  Then you write out a check or whatever system such as EFTPS you use and send the required documents.

If I process my payroll internally, how do you record my payroll information?
We will send a list of what information we need to process your reports.  This information varies depending upon what reports your                             company is required to submit.

Why do you sell QuickBooks products and services if you offer outsourced bookkeeping?
We offer QuickBooks products because some companies want to prepare their own statements internally.  In our opinion, QuickBooks is a                    great company and we can help you get setup quickly and going in the right direction instead of hoping your doing things right.  That’s why               we offer setup, training, review and ongoing support options to customize the right solution for your business.  Our goal is to give you the                   tools to reach your success with your company.

What is a QuickBooks ProAdvisor?
A QuickBooks ProAdvisor is certified by taking a test each year to reassure our clients we have the knowledge needed to setup, train, and                     support to help our clients succeed.  Another benefit to the client is that they can purchase QuickBooks products with a 20% discount and                 free shipping through our website.     

What is an accountants’ review in QuickBooks?
It’s similar to a regular backup, but it allows us to enter or review your accounting transactions while you work in your QuickBooks at the                     same time without losing any information.  It’s a great tool and when we send you back your accountants’ review it lists any additions or                     changes that were made before you accept them into your company file.

Price Quote FAQs

How does your pricing system work?
Northern Michigan Accounting’s bookkeeping pricing system is based on the number of transactions recorded per month.  Our payroll                         pricing and tax services is based on the number of employees that are processed during the month.  Our QuickBooks pricing system has a                 one time setup fee of $299.00 charged when your purchase your copy of QuickBooks.  QuickBooks training, ongoing support and review                   fees are determined after you call 1.877.757.8223 for a free consultation.

Will the monthly cost fluctuate from month to month?
Our quote is based on the information you provided on the price quote.  After the first or second month we can reevaluate the amount of                   transactions that are recorded and discuss any changes in price if it’s needed.

I have a seasonal business and the number of transactions varies every month.  How would I be charged for each month?
Since you’re a seasonal business, you can pay monthly based on the amount of transactions recorded in a month.  We can calculate a                       price that works for everyone.




Billing FAQs

When is the setup fee charged to my credit card?
Setup is a one time fee charged at the time services are agreed upon.

Can I get a refund for the setup charge?
No.  It’s non-refundable.

How am I billed each month and when is it due?
Your credit card will be billed after the reports have been delivered to you each period.  An invoice from Northern Michigan Accounting will                     be included with your reports.




Data Security / Confidentiality FAQs

Are backups done to prevent data loss?
Your transactions are recorded in QuickBooks and backed up daily.

I don’t feel comfortable displaying my bank and other any account numbers is there a way to avoid this?
Just white out the bank account, loan and/or any other account numbers before sending them to us.




Contracts & Cancellation FAQS

Is there a contract to sign?
No contracts, either party can cancel by submitting a written notice.

How do I cancel my account?
You can send an email to service@northernmiaccounting.com with your account information and request cancellation.

Are there any cancellation fees?
There are no cancellation fees.  You will get charged for the last month that work was performed and sent to you.
